Architectures in C Major marks the debut solo exhibition of Ilana Razbash, a practicing architect whose work explores the interplay between sound, space, and landscape. Each of the seven oil paintings in this series translates a specific note from Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah - performed in the key of C major - into an architectural form. Using laser and vibration to visualise individual tones, these sonic patterns became the blueprint for structures that oscillate between inhabitable spaces and sculptural gestures.
Set against plein air landscapes of Edithvale Beach at sunset, and painted across seven consecutive evenings; the works integrate built form and natural light into a single contemplative field. The project draws on Cohen’s spiritual lyricism and the biblical notion of sound as a creative force - where the world is spoken into being. Grounded in research and architectural rigor, yet realised via a design through painting process, Architectures in C Major bridges the analytical and the poetic, offering a new kind of spatial music.
